We’re looking for an Engineering Technician to help keep the practical side of the business running smoothly.
This is a varied, hands-on role. You’ll work alongside our electronics and firmware engineers, helping turn prototypes into working products, and making sure the equipment, components, test processes and documentation are all there when we need them.
You’ll be involved in everything from building test jigs and testing circuit boards, to managing component stock, preparing orders, and keeping BOMs and production information up to date. It’s a role for someone who enjoys making things work, and making sure things get done.
What you’ll be doing
Testing and production
- Testing prototype and production electronic assemblies
- Building and following test procedures
- Programming and configuring products
- Fault-finding basic hardware issues
- Recording test results and identifying failures
- Preparing products for delivery
- Supporting small production runs
- Helping improve production and test processes
Test equipment and fixtures
- Designing and building simple electronic test jigs and fixtures
- Making wiring looms, cables and test harnesses
- Setting up automated or semi-automated test equipment
- Using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies and other lab equipment
- Making test processes faster and more repeatable
- Maintaining and organising test equipment
Components and stores
- Maintaining component and product stock
- Receiving and checking deliveries
- Keeping the stores organised
- Picking components and kits for projects
- Spotting when stock needs replenishing
- Preparing purchase orders and placing routine component orders
- Liaising with suppliers
- Finding alternative components when parts become unavailable
BOMs and documentation
- Maintaining bills of materials
- Updating component information and manufacturer part numbers
- Helping keep production documentation up to date
- Preparing assembly and test documentation
- Maintaining product and component records
- Supporting engineers with documentation and project administration
General engineering support
You’ll also become the person who helps answer questions like:
- “Have we got any of those connectors?”
- “Can you build me a cable for this?”
- “Can we test these 15 boards tomorrow?”
- “The test jig isn’t working.”
- “Has that order arrived yet?”
- “Which revision of the PCB are we using?”
- “Can you put together another five prototype units?”
In a small engineering company, these things matter.
What we’re looking for
Someone practical, organised and technically curious. You don’t necessarily need a formal engineering qualification; experience in an electronics, manufacturing, laboratory or engineering environment would be valuable. Ideally you’ll have:
- An interest in electronics and technology
- Good practical skills
- An understanding of basic electronic circuits
- Confidence using a multimeter and basic test equipment
- Good attention to detail
- Good organisational skills
- The ability to follow and improve test procedures
- Basic computer skills
- The ability to keep track of multiple tasks
- A methodical approach to documentation and stock control
Particularly useful experience
Experience with any of these would be useful, but you don’t need all of them:
- PCB assembly, rework and soldering
- Test fixtures and jigs
- Electronics manufacturing
- Cable and harness assembly
- Oscilloscopes and laboratory equipment
- Programming microcontrollers
- BOM management
- Purchasing electronic components
- Electronic CAD
- 3D printing, CNC or laser cutting
- Python or other scripting languages
A practical attitude and a willingness to learn matter more than ticking every box.
The kind of person we’re looking for
This role will suit someone who enjoys variety and likes being useful. You might be an electronics technician looking for a broader role. You might have worked in electronics manufacturing, test or production. You might even have built electronics as a hobby and want to turn that experience into a career.
We’re particularly interested in people who:
- Notice when something needs doing, and get on with it
- Are organised without needing to be micro-managed
- Take pride in neat, reliable work
- Enjoy solving practical problems
- Are comfortable asking questions
- Can switch between different tasks
- Like learning how things work
- Care about getting the details right
What you can expect from us
You’ll work directly alongside experienced electronics and firmware engineers, and see the complete product development process. You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Work on real electronic products
- Learn new technologies
- Develop your electronics and test skills
- Get involved in product development
- Build your knowledge of manufacturing and production
- Take ownership of your own areas of responsibility
Because we’re a small team, your contribution will be visible and genuinely important. You’ll be the person who turns “we need to build 20 of these” into “they’re all tested, labelled and ready to go."
Interested?
Send us your CV and tell us a little about your practical experience. We’re interested in what you’ve actually built, fixed, tested or improved, whether professionally or as a hobby.
